Publisher's Memo
by Marvin Rosenfeld
Recently, a prominent
pain management expert told me that, in the near future, pain specialists would have, at
their disposal, all of the methods for assessing and managing pain. The patient that fails
to receive relief with one approach will no longer have to shop specialists for other
approaches to the problem. The pain specialist will be able to utilize all approaches
including the latest technology that we see coming on line rapidly. In fact, many pain
clinics are already staffed to perform in this manner.
Practical Pain Management would like to help educate all of our readers in the
ever-growing pain management specialty. The fundamental approach to this education is
through the selection of articles in each issue. We are proud of the cadre of physicians
who have written for us and those members of our Editorial Advisory Board who have been
instrumental in assisting us. The articles that have appeared in our magazine have covered
a multidisciplinary approach to pain management from pharmaceuticals and
psychological assessments to sEMG and electromedicine. The number of clinicians who have
come forth as prospective writers has been overwhelming. We will continue to bring you
these pragmatic and informative articles to help educate you in your pain management
practice.
But here is the message of the day it is not only the articles in Practical Pain
Management that are educational. We have made a concerted effort to enroll advertisers who
manufacturer and distribute a broad range of equipment and services designed for the pain
clinician. You should look to these companies for the latest products and pertinent
information related to your niche profession. Practical Pain Management is the only
publication in the field that is supported by so much diversity. If you are not paying
attention to these advertisements, you are missing an important part of this publication.
In this issue advertisements cover pharmaceuticals, electromedicine, sEMG, sensory
exams, automated traction, new technologies for pain treatment, medications for delivery
systems, a topical skin refrigerant, automated documentation, LASE spinal endoscopy, a
fluoroscopy book, and a website that offers CME credits online. We suggest that you read
these advertisements carefully and contact the companies to show your support. They have
much more to tell you than the information that can fit into an ad. Further, you will help
us by letting them know that their message has been received. It is these advertisers
alone who make it possible for us to send you our publication without charge.
If you wish to continue receiving Practical Pain Management, you must be sure to let us
know, if you have not done so already. The process is simple remove the address
label from the cover of your magazine, affix it to the card adjacent to this memo, make
any necessary address changes, and mail it back. Or, visit our website at
www.PPMmagazine.com and fill out your registration online. These are the only ways you can
ensure an uninterrupted free subscription.
If we continue to be diligent in fulfilling our charter and you remain an ardent
reader, together we will be instrumental in forging a new era in pain management.
