Announcement from the Publisher
by Marvin Rosenfeld
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Dr. Mark Allen Young, Chair of Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Maryland Rehabilitation Center (State of Maryland
Department of Education), has accepted the position of Editor in Chief of Practical Pain
Management. Dr. Young is a faculty member of the Johns Hopkins University as well as the
University of Maryland and has earned a distinguished record of accomplishment in the
fields of rehabilitation and pain medicine.
Commenting on his new editorial leadership position during a recent
interview with Practical Pain Management, Dr. Young stated:
In the less than two years since its launch, Practical Pain Management
has earned an important place in the libraries and clinical practices of pain management
specialists throughout the United States.
As an academic pain management physician, I am proud to be associated with Practical
Pain Management because of the comprehensive coverage that this publication offers
pain management specialists of all backgrounds. The strength of the publication lies
within its charter: a tutorial publication dedicated to educating practicing physicians in
the methods of pain management.
In the coming months, readers of Practical Pain Management will be
treated to a broad array of articles representing all aspects of pain management. The
all-important role of traditional pain management techniques as well as emerging
scientifically supported complementary strategies will be highlighted. Our goal will be to
continue to offer academic excellence and peer-review quality. Our interdisciplinary
editorial review board will continue to provide academic oversight and strategic direction
to Practical Pain Management.
Practical Pain Management could not be in better hands. Dr. Young chairs The
Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Maryland Rehabilitation Center
in addition to his academic responsibilities. He brings the right background mix to a
publication that stresses the practical aspects of pain management.
Among Dr. Young's many accomplishments are six funded or sponsored grants, several
awards including a State of Maryland Governor's Citation, prior editorial experience, over
thirty published articles, seven published books including his latest, Women In
Pain and PM&R Secrets, and radio and television appearances. Dr.
Young has amply demonstrated his dedication to his profession and to pain management in
particular.
Dr. Young is well prepared to make a difference in pain management. As he puts it:
After many years of effort on behalf of pain management education I believe this
opportunity will give me the most effective way to reach my colleagues in promoting
first-rate pain management.
I hope you will see fit to join him in supporting Practical Pain Management.
Yours truly,

Mar/Apr 2002
