Publisher's Message: You Can Be An Author

by Marvin Rosenfeld

Marvin RosenfeldEvery so often I find it necessary to remind our readers how the articles in Practical Pain Management are generated. First, I will remind you that our articles are tutorials teaching various methods of pain management, introducing new modalities and refining procedures. The articles are written primarily by physicians interested in sharing their clinical experiences with their colleagues. Any reader of Practical Pain Management is a potential author. We do not send out requests for articles to the well-known physicians who populate the speaking circuits. We are more interested in getting the perspectives of physicians in the trenches.

All of our articles are referenced but occasionally we receive an opinion piece that cannot be adequately referenced although the contents qualify as interesting material for our readers. These are often published as ‘Guest Editorials’ letting our readers know that it is an opinion article.

We have an impressive Editorial Advisory Board that includes department heads who write and edit articles in their chosen specialties. They are all available for reviewing potential articles as needed. They are not peer reviews in the strict sense since that would be far too restrictive for our charter but, nevertheless, they are thorough reviews from experts.

I sometimes feel that, for some authors, writing in Practical Pain Management is addictive because so many of them have written numerous articles. One aspect that they like is the fact that their work gets published quickly. We would like to increase the cadre of writers and I hope you are considering a subject as you read this. If you worry about your writing style, don’t. If you provide the facts and narrative in your own words, we will edit your article into a format that has never failed to please our authors.

Provide the information below by email, fax or letter. If your subject is selected, we will forward author guidelines and a list of closing dates for upcoming issues. You can select which issue suits your schedule.
